Whenever
someone lights up on screen, it may not be because the story really needs
it. There’s often far more smoking on screen than off, and named brands
feature prominently in many Hollywood films – including films aimed
at children. Why?
Often, it’s because tobacco companies have paid to have their
brand promoted in the film.
Video is even better than the original film for tobacco
companies – videos are shown worldwide, and get round any advertising
bans or age restrictions. This way the tobacco industry reaches far
more people than go to the cinema.
